Migration - Blackboard Course Sites to Canvas
"What about my old Blackboard content?"
The University migrated many Blackboard course sites to staging sites in Canvas. Login to Canvas at https://canvas.jhu.edu/ to see which courses have been migrated from Blackboard. Your migrated course sites will be in a special STAGING site with the course names beginning with STAGE_. To view what Blackboard course sites were migrated to Canvas:
- Login to Canvas: https://canvas.jhu.edu/
- Click "Dashboard" on the left-hand Global Navigation Menu (This is also the default landing page after logging in.
- Scroll Down to "Unpublished Courses" to view which courses have been migrated. Migrated sites are tagged with pre-fix "STAGE_".
The University was not able to migrate all 200,000 Blackboard course sites. Please contact email@example.com to request additional migrations. Note that STAGING courses will only be used to migrate content from Blackboard and to allow faculty to clean up content. When content is ready, it needs to be copied into the "real" SIS-based courses.
Blackboard Access Ends on December 1, 2022
"When is the last date that I can download my Blackboard content, including student data?"
Blackboard will not be available after December 1, 2022. Select Blackboard course sites from the past 3 years have been automatically migrated to Canvas (e.g., courses likely to be taught again). Faculty will have an opportunity to review these sites and to request manual migrations if the automatic migration missed a course. No student data is being moved to the Canvas platform. Faculty should consider what student data they may need after 12/1/22 (for challenges or recommendations, etc.) and take steps to archive this data. We have outlined the steps in this document.
Organizations - Moving Blackboard Organizations to Canvas
The migration also includes Blackboard Organizations - non-course sites used to manage placement exams, new student orientations, or pre-professional programs. These non-course sites are called "Communities" in Canvas. If you mange a Blackboard organization, please complete the Organization Survey Form if you haven't already.
