The Active Learning Card Set

The Center for Teaching Excellence and Innovation has developed a card set for quick reference of active learning techniques. Representing a broad range of activities, these cards provide strategies that can be both used immediately and planned over a longer period of time.

the card set can be used for any delivery modality: in-person, hybrid, and online asynchronous classes.

Getting the Cards

If you are interested in purchasing professionally printed card sets in bulk, please contact us ([email protected]) and we will connect you with the printing service that we use. Each card set will come in a paper-based tab-locking box, an informational sheet, 16 strategy cards, and 2 blank cards.

What’s Included on Each Card:

Preparation Time

The estimated preparation time required to plan to the activity relative to the total preparation time for the class, module, or unit.

Student Engagement Time

The estimated time students will spend on each activity relative to the total instructional time allowed for a class, module, or unit.

Debrief Time Needed

The cards provide a reminder to plan in time to debrief the activity when necessary.

Individual, Pairs, and/or Groups

The cards indicate whether an activity is appropriate for individuals, pairs, and/or groups.
