I had the best time last week while participating in training on education research led by the incredible Melo-Jean Yap. It was an absolute pleasure to learn from such a knowledgeable and inspiring instructor who truly knows how to engage and empower learners.

What made this experience even more special was the amazing group of fellow participants who brought diverse perspectives and experiences to the table. The collaborative atmosphere fostered deep discussions and meaningful connections that will be so incredibly helpful as I move forward.

From exploring new methodologies to gaining insights into best practices, l walked away from the training feeling equipped with a fresh perspective and renewed passion for my work. I’m confident that the knowledge and skills I’ve gained will positively impact how I approach my projects and contribute to the field of education research.

A huge thank you to Dr. Melo and my fellow participants for making this workshop.

Hi! I’m Hexin Bi, a third-year graduate student studying in the JHU School of Education’s Mental Health Counseling program’s School Counseling track. I’m passionate about working in the education field and helping adolescents and young adults thrive in school settings. I’m interested in counseling psychology, student wellbeing, and international student/immigrant wellbeing and would like to conduct more research about that!

My work timelines

If you have a quick question, I can help within a few days.
If you are working on a deadline for a medium-sized project, give me at least a two-weeks notice.
If you are planning on submitting a grant (e.g., NSF, etc.), please approach me at least a month before the submission deadline

How to get started

Please fill out this brief questionnaire so that I can efficiently help you. The more information you share, the more I can customize a plan to help and guide you. Whether you’re in the stage of brainstorming, fine-tuning research design, implementing, analyzing, or merely struggling, I would love to know all about it.

If you have a question about an already existing and established project with us, then you do not need to fill out this form. However, if you have an inquiry about a new (potential) project, then please fill out this form.

Please expect 2-3 business days to hear back from me.

Are you ready to chat with me? Fill out this consultation intake form:

Thanks for filling out this form. I value your time and creativity! I look forward to innovating with you.

For urgent timelines, please still fill out this form and also email Mike Reese at [email protected]

Workshops

I also offer engaging, hands-on workshops for any faculty, staff, postdoc, or graduate student who is interested in learning about doing education research. The learning outcomes for the “Introduction to Education Research” (IER) workshop are as follows:

  • Describe research approaches in education.
  • Summarize best practices in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research.
  • Reflect on one’s identities and background, and how they inform one’s researcher positionality.
  • Discuss ethical and inclusive strategies for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • Perform hands-on activities for designing, collecting, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Develop a working purpose statement for research study of interest.
Thanks so much to Reid Sczerba for designing the IER logo. Reid is a former CTEI Senior Education Technology staff & former captain of the Decimators softball work league.

More information about the IER workshop can be found on this page.

Education Journal Club

We also host an education journal club focused on teaching and learning topics in higher education. It encompasses all disciplines, so everyone from all fields are welcome to join this hybrid event! I highly encourage participants (faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students) to select the articles and lead the discussions!

Co-organizers Melo & Dr. Caroline Egan
Melo & CTEI Events Coordinator Haley Knapp

We serve ideas along with tea and light refreshments! Come for the community and conversation!
